Engage with the TMCF-DSU Joint Center for HBCU Non-Traditional Completion

The TMCF-DSU Joint Center is not just about creating opportunities; it’s about fostering meaningful engagement that leads to real change. We invite institutions, partners and advocates to join us in our mission to support adult learners and empower HBCUs to thrive.

Successful partnership rests on three building blocks: (1) Sharing knowledge (2) Leveraging internal capacity (3) Buying capacity; relative importance shifts over time.

Dedicated Partnership

Successful partnership rests on 3 building blocks: (1) Sharing knowledge and (2) Leveraging internal capacity (3) Buying capacity; relative importance shifts over time

Sharing Knowledge

Description

  • Consult with TMCF and DSU to gain knowledge on program-level best practices and within functional areas
  • Receive coaching from TMCF, DSU and third-party partners on best practices across functional areas
  • Supports building up internal capacity for long-term sustainability

Guiding questions for Institutions

  • Which functional areas and best practices underpinning the non-traditional completer model are most in need of support / consultation?
Leveraging Internal Capacity

Description

  • Utilize internal processes, expertise, personnel and infrastructure to implement a non-traditional completer program, building on knowledge and best practices gained from knowledge sharing
  • Utilize internal funding to engage joint center’s third-party partners to supplement internal capacity

Guiding questions for Institutions

  •  What are the gaps in internal expertise, personnel and infrastructure that need to be overcome for a successful non-traditional completer initiative?
  • Which gaps should be prioritized for near-term investment?
Buying Capacity

Description

  • With initial joint center subsidization, engage third-party partners to buy capacity in targeted marketing and enrollment for stopped-out students, course share, student success coaching and faculty professional development for long-term student success
  • Accelerate initiation of non-traditional completer program with functional capabilities

Guiding questions for Institutions

  • Which functional areas does it make sense to buy capacity in? Which ones should be prioritized?
  • Which third-party partners provide the most value relative to needs?
